About the client

ImmunoArt is an educational project on primary immunodeficiencies (PID) for doctors and patients. The project author is Aishat Kantulavovna Idarmacheva, an allergist-immunologist, vaccinologist and pediatrician.

Primary immunodeficiencies are a group of congenital disorders of the immune system. They are rare but severe, and the main challenge is not treatment but timing: diagnosis is often delayed by years because the child is managed as “frequently ill”. The project aims to give practicing doctors structured material that helps them recognize such cases earlier.

Task

The client needed a working reference tool rather than a brochure site: a doctor should be able to find the right section in a few clicks during an appointment, and a patient should understand what it is about without medical training.

The client also had a specific requirement: to manage the content herself. PID material is regularly updated, and waiting for a developer just to edit a paragraph is inconvenient and costly.

Main project goals:

  • 01
    build the structure: an encyclopedia of PID groups, clinical algorithms, reference values and fact sheets
  • 02
    present the medical material so that both doctors and patients can use it
  • 03
    move all text out of the markup so the author can edit content without a developer
  • 04
    build an admin panel with version backups and one-click publishing
  • 05
    cover the SEO essentials: extensionless URLs, canonical, sitemap, link preview cards for messaging apps
  • 06
    link the website with the project's training course

The challenge before the project

The material was scattered: some in the training course, some in presentations and publications. There was no single place to refer a colleague or a patient's parent to.

This led to three problems:

• there was no way to quickly find the right algorithm or reference value;

• material for doctors and material for patients were mixed together;

• every text change had to go through whoever coded the page.

Solution

We built a website where content is separated from layout. Each page is a list of blocks described in a structured file, and a build script turns them into finished HTML. The set of block types is limited, so whatever the author changes, the design stays intact.

On top of that sits a password-protected admin panel: text editing, block order and composition, backups of the last twenty versions and a “Publish” button that rebuilds the site.

What we did

Structure and content

• an encyclopedia of 10 groups of primary immunodeficiencies, each with its own page;

• six clinical algorithms: the frequently ill child, neutropenia, lymphopenia, hypogammaglobulinemia, chronic candidiasis, opportunistic infections;

• “For Doctors and Patients”, “Academy” and “Media” sections, a page about the doctor and an about-the-project section;

• reference values and fact sheets, plus a guide to reading lab test results.

Content management

• all text moved out of the code into structured files;

• an admin panel with automatic backups and one-click publishing;

• a new field added to the schema appears in the interface right away - the site can grow without rewriting the admin panel.

Technical foundation

• extensionless URLs, canonical, sitemap.xml and robots.txt are generated along with the site;

• OG cards: a link shared in a messaging app expands into a preview instead of a bare URL;

• an indexing switch so the test address does not show up in search results as a duplicate;

• deployment to new hosting with a single command.

Results

10
PID groups in the encyclopedia
6
clinical algorithms
20
content versions in admin backups
0
lines of code to edit text

Outcome

ImmunoArt works as a reference tool: a doctor opens the right algorithm or PID group during an appointment, and a patient gets an explanation in plain language.

Key project results:

• an educational resource on clinical immunology was built and published;

• the project author manages the content herself - there is no need to contact a developer to edit text;

• the site is ready to grow: new groups, algorithms and sections are added as blocks, without reworking the layout.
